Q1:When are move-in applications for prefectural residences accepted?

A1: It depends on the residence. Please look up the information on the prefectural residence information website to see whether the residence you wish to move into accepts applications during the present month. Applications are accepted for a period of one month - from the first day to the last day of the month.

Q2: What are the application requirements for prefectural residences?

A2: Applicants must satisfy the following five requirements to apply for prefectural residences.
1. They shall not be delinquent on prefectural taxes.
2. They shall live with their family in a prefectural residence.
3. They shall be in needy circumstances of residence.
4. Their earnings shall not exceed the designated amount.
5. They shall not be members of any gangs, or violent groups.

Q3:Where are prefectural residences located?

A3:The following is the list of prefectural residences by municipality.

 - Gifu City: Shiraki-machi Residence, Gon-no-shima Residence, Kano Residence,
Tagami Residence, and   Yuhi-ga-oka Residence
 - Kakamigahara City:  Ozaki Residence  
 - Kitagata Town:  Kitagata Residence 
 - Ogaki City:  Fujie Residence    and   Arasaki Residence
 - Tarui Town:  Miyashiro Residence
 - Tajimi City:  Asahi-ga-oka Residence

Q4:What are the necessary procedures in applying for prefectural residences?

A4:
1.Check which residences are accepting move-in applications.
2.Prepare necessary documents and submit them to the application offices (see list below) in your area.
3.Residents and dwelling units are decided by lottery during the early part of the month following the month of the application period.

Q5:Can I apply even if I do not live in Gifu Prefecture now?

A5:Yes, you can.

Q6:Can a single-mother household apply?

A6:Yes, on the condition that a Dokushin Shomei-sho (document that certifies the applicant is single) is also submitted.

Q7:I am currently in the process of divorce. Can I apply?

A7:No. You are required to submit a certificate that proves you are divorced after the divorce proceedings are completed.

Q8:My partner and I are now in a common-law marriage. Can I apply?

A8:No. Your marriage must be confirmed by official certification, such as a Jumin-hyo (certificate of residence), or other related certificates, that prove you are legally married.

Q9:When can I move in after my application is submitted?

A9:Your move-in date is the first day of the second month after your application is submitted. You are required to move in within 15 days of the move-in date.

Q10:How much is the rent?

A10:Rent varies according to conditions of the location, housing space, age of building, housing equipment, as well as household earnings. Please contact the Jutaku Kyokyu Kosha (Residential Service Corporation), or other related organizations, for further information.

Q11:Do I have to pay deposit money?

A11:Yes, the amount of the deposit is equivalent to three month's rent.

Q12:Do I need to have guarantors?

A12:Yes, you need two guarantors. You should list at least one of your relatives, who do not live with you and who earn about the same amount as you do, as guarantor.

Q13:Can I keep animals (pets) in the prefectural residence?

A13:No, pets are not allowed.

Q14:I left a job and have no income. Do I qualify to be exempt from paying rent?

A14:Yes, on the condition that a Yachin Genmen Shinsei-sho (application form for rent exemption) is submitted.

Q15: What procedures should I go through if I would like to have a relative live with me in the prefectural residence?

A15:You are required to submit a Dokyo Shonin Shinsei-sho (application form for new resident approval).

Q16:What procedures should I go through when I would like to move out of the prefectural residence?

A16:Please inform your resident manager 20 days prior to the move-out date. After that, you are required to be present at the scene of the room inspection conducted by the Residential Service Cooperation, or other organizations, for the purpose of calculating repair costs.
