Q1:

I am currently unemployed. I am looking for a job, but I don't have one yet. I have no income to support my living costs and I have no savings. I do not know what to do. Where can I go to consult about my situation?

A1:

市にお住まいの方は市役所の福祉課へ、町村にお住まいの方は県振興局か県振興事務所の福祉課へ相談ください。

Q2:

Do foreign residents qualify to receive public assistance?

A2:

Foreign nationals, such as the spouse, or child of a Japanese national, who hold a permanent visa, or a visa for long-term living, qualify to receive public assistance. Consult with staff at the Municipal Office recorded on your alien registration card.

Q3:

How long does it take to receive the aid after I apply for it?

A3: You cannot receive aid right after you apply. It may take about 30 days.

Q4:

Until when can I receive the aid?

A4:

Aid is cut off when you cease to satisfy the requirements. For example, in the event that you get a job with an income that exceeds the amount of the aid.

Q5:

When I applied for public assistance, I was told that my relatives would be informed. What does this mean?

A5:

When an applicant of public assistance has kin (parents, children, brother and sisters), we investigate whether they are able to give financial support to the applicant. If you have issues, such as abuse, that complicate this procedure, please let us know.

Q6:

Do I have to give up my vehicle in order to receive aid?

A6:

Vehicles are considered to be a financial resource. In principle, you are asked to get rid of your car.

Q7:

Is it all right to own an air conditioner and/or cellular phone?

A7:

You may own an air conditioner and/or a cellular phone. But you cannot receive aid to buy, or maintain these items.
